The Mitsubishi Destinator will launch in South Africa in March 2026. Now, ahead of its official SA launch, we had the opportunity to take a closer look at the Japanese automaker’s new seven-seater SUV.
As we reported, the Destinator is available with the choice of two trim grades: GLS and Exceed — the latter featured in the video below. The GLS is priced from R489 990 and the Exceed is priced from R569 990.
GLS spec includes such nice-to-haves as 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment, a six-speaker audio system, keyless entry and start, and a rear-view camera array that’s supplemented by park distance sensors. Inside, the GLS model’s seats are trimmed in fabric. GLS grade rolls on 18-inch alloys, finished in a dark grey hue.
Spearheading the lineup, Exceed spec gains an 8.0-inch digital driver’s display, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment – the latter coupled with an eight-speaker Yamaha audio system – and wireless smartphone charging. The Exceed package further includes ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, a surround-view camera, front and rear park distance sensors, an electrically operated tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, and 18-inch diamond-cut alloys. Exceed grade also features additional driver assistance systems.
The two-strong local Destinator lineup is exclusively powered by Mitsubishi’s 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The four-cylinder unit produces 120 kW and 250 N.m of torque, delivered to the road via the front wheels. The four-cylinder unit is coupled with a CVT.
Mitubishi’s new seven-seater SUV measures 4 680 mm in length and 1 840 mm in width. The Destinator sports a 2 815 mm wheelbase and 214 mm of ground clearance.
